As I look at the card I see the oak leaves and acorns round the edge and think of the strength of an oak and the time it takes to grow and how here it is bearing fruit, so this reminds me that the druid card may indicate knowledge gained over a period of time, a depth of knowing obtained when something has been learned and lived with. Also that it is a time for this knowledge to be put into action and to seed others, which feels like the transmission of knowledge, teaching, putting the seeds of something new in another.
Deck created by Anna Franklin and Published by Llewellyn Deck available to buy from both websites.
There is a wren in the corner and it reminds me of a story about the wren being made out of different birds feathers and that's why he is scruffy, I feel this is indicating an eclectic-ness of learning, taking information from many different sources and bringing them together to form something new.
The druid stands hands open outwards with the cup, wand, sword and disc in front of him - prayer-fully, I get the feeling of the magician in other decks where he is able to perform magick and use all of nature to create what he needs. Odd for this card in a way.
I go into the card. The wren says " I am little and not seen but I have knowledge of many different things and I use this knowledge quietly doing my thing, affecting the world in a gentle unseen sort of way."
Oak says " I am the strength and the longevity of all - I see all, as I grow and adapt only slowly when real adaptation is needed, I do not change just for the whim of it, as for me all things take time and it needs to be worth changing" I get the feeling that this could also mean that someone might be slow to change and quite rigid in their way of thinking, only doing what is tried and tested, changing only if the reason for change is necessary in the long term.
There is a robin I ask him for a message, he says he is the friend and messenger to the druid and he will stay by him warning him of danger and pointing out things overlooked, generally bringing love and friendship into things.
I ask the druid "May I speak with you" (he seems in meditation) He looks at me and says "Yes, What is it that you seek?" I say "A greater understanding of you and what you can mean in a reading if you appear."
He says "I am a prayerful person - I have studied the unknown for many years and still am on my journey to the source, the original oneness, I like to offer up to All That Is, every thing that I have, so that all my life can be part of the journey. As I stand here I can impart knowledge and information to you whilst I also have to be mindful that I do not know even the tiniest part of All That Is and I must remain humble - I acknowledge that you may have travelled journeys I can not even imagine and so I will tell you what I know but not presume to know how you will use the knowledge, for your history will assimilate the info I give you and come to its own result. You must follow your own journey - even though we may walk together for some of the journey never are we to assume we can know another's path or reasoning, for each of us is unique in our history, in this life and in others and what is good for one is not necessarily good for another.
In a reading I can represent a teacher coming into your life and reversed perhaps someone with too much ego and too little concern for where you are in your unique life yourself. You may be the teacher you will also be the taught, as we learn from everything that happens to us in life. This card also represents the balance of life, the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. The four suits of the tarot here on the alter, all in balance, each used as needed and each side offered up to the great All That Is in thanks and gratitude. Offering and accepting all sides of yourself as being part of your spiritual life is an important step in acceptance and in truly living your spirituality. In your heart of hearts you know what is true for you - live this truth and you are the teacher for your life becomes a guiding light. I am here at the alter at midwinter, for it is the time of thankfulness of the light returning, the faith that it will come and the inner knowing that the cycle of things will change and become more positive and outward. I have a knowledge of the cycles and the right timing of actions to ensure flowing journeys ahead.
I listen to my friend the robin who's simple company and friendship reminds me to keep it simple and loving as love is all. I like the alter in front of me with its spirals as it reminds me of the cycles of life and how in everything there is a cycle and there is movement even if it is slow - nothing stays the same."
I feel it is a card of hope and of knowing, of having faith in good outcomes. It seems that whatever happens is for the best and never can be judged as a lucky or unlucky thing as each thing teaches and is there for a reason. I feel the druid is very grounded in his highly spiritual knowledge and it is like he is consciously aware that he needs to keep grounded to be of use here in the physical plane. I really like him. I feel he is very non-judgmental and accepting of everyone and of the way things are.
I ask if there is something in particular he wants to show me - he says I am to explore this place and follow where I am drawn - what I need to know will be revealed.
I thank him and walk further into the card into the rising sun - the beginning of a new day and toward the Stonehenge in the background. I breathe the air in and it feels fresh and vibrant and very alive. I feel free and unrestrained by rules and regulations (which surprises me as I see this card in other decks as being about rules and regulations) Here the freedom feels excellent. I wish I could take this feeling of being in the flow back into my standard life which I am now aware is actually full of schedules, have to's, etc. I think I fill my life up too much to allow the flow and end up 'having to' do things as I have arranged them, want to do them at some point but really would rather have more time. As I walk around I feel the suns warmth strengthen on my back and feel that I am not being judged for my organizational structure I hear a 'when the time is right for you to let go of your structure then your structure will go' and I feel loved as I am, and that this is the way of things for me right now - not to worry or panic for it is what I need in the now to be who I am on the journey I am on. I receive this message joyfully - I really feel the release it gives me in itself.
I return to the druid and ask him about this card reversed and he says when you are judging yourself to be wrong whatever you do then I am reversed when you do not see the natural flow and cycle of all and feel where ever you are will never change then I am reversed and when you live a life where you feel you know the definitive truth and all should look to you for it, then indeed I am reversed for these things are my shadow sides - that even I would wish not to have, but I have to acknowledge that they are indeed part of me as each of us has a shadow so do I - reversed in an unconscious placing I could be considered the shadow that someone is dreading facing as it would strip away the ego at first and only later lead to a peace and acceptance of all things as part of the higher spiritual reality.
I thank him and then say goodbye and walk out of the card.
I really liked this card and the things he had to say, I feel very happy with this, he was somewhat different to what I expected and nice to meet.
In a reading with tarot I notice which images I am drawn to on a card and use the feel and message from that image, if I am drawn to the robin for example then the message may be of friendship and protection, I may ask the robin for a phrase for that person and deliver what he says to me at the time to the person I am reading for. Try it out in your readings, look at what you have got from a card in your meditation and when the card appears in a reading see how the characters you are drawn to change the emphasis of a card and add messages of their own.
I welcome any comments you may have about this journey or about the journeys you are doing for yourself in your explorations of tarot.
For those of you who have one of our tapes the B side of any of the tapes can be ideal for use like this. When you are led into the garden you can visualise the card there in front of you.
Often people find it easier to maintain the focus into the card when using the light visualisation as directed in these tapes. It stops your mind wandering so much and helps you receive the images, developing your intuition. Go to the Seeds of Light homepage to explore or buy one of our tapes.
The readings I give from my website are detailed and last between 1/2 hour to an hour, also I record them onto CD or tape so you can listen to them time and time again - often people find that the things I have said take on new meanings as time passes and that the information that comes through really helps as situations unfold. Information is gained both from the tarot cards as well as psychically the two forms of guidance merging together to give insight to any situation you are concerned about, or you general future.
Readings can be done by distance onto a CD or tape and sent to you in the post, so there's no need to be living in my area, or need to find a time we can both be present. Limited face to face and telephone readings are also offered. If you are feeling you would like a reading then please visit my tarot page.
