4 of Wands – Development
This month I am continuing journeying into the minor arcana cards of the Sacred Circle Deck (available from my book store ), this month it is the Four of Wands – and we start to look at the fours. Fours are about stability and structure, the square as a shape is solid and stands strong, so the fours in each suit represent the stability in the area of the particular suit

I look at the card and see the wheel shape of the wands and the chalk mound in the background and I am not particularly inspired by this card, I like the glow and balance of the wands in the foreground though.
I walk into the card....
I am immediately aware it is a cloudy day but there is a wind that gives motion to the weather. , I feel the sun will come out later on. I look at the wands and ask them what they symbolise – I am struck by their glow and balanced nature.
“We represent perfection they say what are the ultimate you can achieve ands though right now you feel your dream is not going to come to fruition you can hold this dream as your goal none the less, all things change and it is as if you fear that the change means it will all descend into the darkness, when actually it is ever changing and will not stay dark for long. We are balanced as you say and we can help you achieve the goal you set your mind to. We will help you roll with the punches along the way – for all the terrains you cross will have both uphill challenging sections, as well as the down hill joy of flow. Keep your goal in mind and you will succeed in whatever you decide. We tell of you needing to know that, as you trust your passion, it is manifest – perhaps not by a route of no obstacle, but definitely by a route of variety. If you allow yourself to let go of judging how things are and just stand back, you will enjoy the ride and learn more than you can imagine at the outset. ”
“Thank you” I say – “That is very useful – you do seem too good to be true”
“– yes it is the gleam of the dream that keeps you moving forward at times of doubt – do not judge it but allow it to help you over the challenges. ” They respond
I walk past the wands and towards the grassy mound of chalk soil.
“Do you have a message for me?” I ask
“We are a formation of rock over time and it is the relative strengths that make our presence here seen. As some of the soil is washed away so we are uncovered. This is the natural way of the world– allow yourself to let go where you are being worn away and let your strengths be uncovered – you do not need to have a strength in everything, in many ways you can not see your personal strengths if you were to have a strength in all – so allow the wearing away of the things that can be let go of easily and then see what your shape is – it will be yours and natural and fitting and hold up against the elements, perhaps adapting still as necessary but your core remains the same. We each have our role. ”
“Thank you – not what I expected to hear from you or this card but I appreciate your comments. So in this card what would you be saying to someone?”
“That you need to let go more easily to those things you have finished with and know that this is not a failure but will reveal a success. That you come to balance through this process of allowing the flow to touch you and allowing yourself to adapt to the energies around you in this way. Not suddenly like a tree blowing in the wind, but over time and looking at the trends of your consistent feelings over time, ”what is the core of you?“ – this will help you in your direction. Go with what comes easily, there may be obstacles along the way but as you focus on your core you will have the energy to face the challenges presented. ”
“Thank you ” I say
I notice a dark woodland to the back of the scene and walk over to it, I find a small pathway into the woods and walk into the dark. It is dense and hard to see where the path is going, things sound dampened in here and both protected and yet exposed – there seem to be so many shadows.
I ask aloud.. “What are you showing me?”
“Even in the darkest places there are ways through, you may not be able to see your destination but the pathway lies before you – as you explore the shadows your own fears show themselves more clearly. This helps you know the depth and manner of yourself as much as the light and the wind and rain. Trust and walk forward, know you can find your way out if necessary by keeping aware. Awareness helps you more than anything else in this deep dark woods. We stand close together joining in our forces to grow to the light – though we make darkness and shadow as we do, there is no issue with this for all light has a shadow and as you know the both you know the whole. Our light is high up out of reach from your perspective, but from ours we striving and moving in the light with each other all the time. So it is as you look upon another – sometimes they seem so dark yet their striving for the light may be many times stronger than you expect. Just their pathway there seems dark to you from your pathways point of view... here climb one of us. ”
I see a tree in front of me and see it would be easy to climb and start up the tree... as I climb upwards, higher and higher I go and I can see the light is shining more fully and at the very top it is magnificent, many colours of greens and blues shining and shimmering in the leaves and needles of these trees it looks like a great sea dancing to the tune of the universe above and the sun is now shining brightly. Such a contrast – I understand what the forest is saying to me.
“So I am to understand you are saying do not judge another's path, for they maybe nearer the light than I think, that this card is about balance of the dark and light within us and that sometimes we will experience the dark as if it is all there is yet within it may be the greatest growth to the light. In all, everything is balanced and, referring to the wheel of wands, things are always changing, dipping into our darkness and then out into the light depending on our perspective of both ourselves and others. ?”
“Yes indeed” the trees say, “you have learned well.”
“Thank you for teaching” I say and find myself down at the foot of the tree and walking away from the forest, as I stand between them all I ask “What if you are reversed?”
“Well then we are getting stuck with trying to be the same, avoiding change, avoiding acknowledging strengths. Also imbalanced – staying in one direction for too much of the time – needing more light or more shadow to influence your pathway forward. It is like fear stops the natural flow towards success, for success is the outcome when we are the right way up – reversed there is an avoidance of this success for the change or endings it brings. Allow awareness first – view the situation from another perspective, let go and allow success to come.”
“Thank you all – you have opened my eyes to this card, thank you.”
“You are welcome..”
I walk out of the card.
